Thread Bare
"He's not quite one of us ... Not quite one of them.
He's a betweener ... a betwixter!"
(Thread Bare,
2005)
Thread
Bare marks the
directorial debut of film maker Goosama Bin Gander. Shot on a
budget of $43, this
feature length science fiction epic tells of an alien invasion
in the midst of an unsuspecting community. The sinister elfin Kringles enlist
the aid of an
earthly reverend, The
Man in the Black Hat, to hatch their deadly take-over.
Local yokels Ulcer
Guttoni and Smack
Dabbins sense something
amiss, and seek the help of university professor Dr. Leo Pantz (assisted
by his doting secretary, the comely Beaulah Lawson).
Police
inspector Francois
DuBois eats stale donuts and mocks the reports of strange
events. Military base personnel march in unorthodox
formations, and
the stage is set for the final confrontation when Ulcer receives
cryptic wisdom from bombastic gypsy Madame Upbottom.
As the grizzled GranBarb
puts it, "I went to the mall today, and I
either saw a
space ship - or a dinosaur - but I'm not sure which!"
Thread Bare
is a dance
of debutantic diabolism, and fits quite well
into a Saturday night's popcorn-fueled, attention-deficit viewing.
